A fantastic website!

www.happyrambles.com is an online journal to record all the positives from your day.  You get an email each evening prompting you to make an entry, and each email you receive also contains a random previous entry that you’ve made, which gives you a daily top-up of happy memories :)

I get the vast majority of my clients to do a similar exercise – I ask them to write down three ‘positives’ or happy experiences from their day every night before they go to sleep, and everyone comments on how much better they feel once they start doing it.  I’ll definitely be mentioning this website to my clients, and I’m going to start using it myself as well.

Give it a go – you might be pleasantly surprised at how quickly you’ll start feeling better about things…

The disease called ‘Perfection’

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

The link below will take you to a blog post on a website called Single Dad Laughing.  I’ll confess now that I haven’t even looked at the rest of the site – this one blog post blew me away so completely that I had to share it with you straight away.  It’s so relevant to every single person out there – it will touch your lives, make you think, and hopefully make you do something about it.  If you want or need any help with making that change, please do get in touch – 07794 595783 or chloe@openmindhypnotherapy.co.uk

Aside from helping people make positive changes to their lives through Cognitive Hypnotherapy, my other passion in life is photography.

I’m only an amateur – I use a compact digital camera to take snaps of my children, my family, my friends and beautiful scenes in nature.  I love capturing ‘the moment’.  If the house was burning down (and everyone I loved was safe) the only thing I would save would be my photos – they are my memories, my life story, and I treasure them dearly.

I first came across the M.I.L.K. photography exhibition when I was ill.  I’m not sure if I came across it accidentally, or if I deliberately went to see it, but however it was that I got there, I instantly and totally loved it.  I was fascinated by the sheer beauty of the photos, and the emotions and meanings contained within them, and ever since have aspired to take photographs like them.

I went to see the exhibition again when I was travelling in Australia, and when I got home I bought the books, which now have pride of place on display in my office/therapy room.

M.I.L.K. stands for ‘Moments of Intimacy, Laughter and Kinship’ and for me they represent the most important things in life.

Take a look at the website (www.milkphotos.com) – I’d love to know what you think.

www.mybestthingtoday.com

What a fabulous website!  Something I get many of my clients to do is to look back over their day or week and write down three things that have made them feel good.  It can be anything – something small like seeing a rainbow,  something big like getting a promotion, or anything in between.  It’s commonly known amongst the Quest community as “3 Gifts”, and I’ve found that clients can very quickly start to notice the results of doing it as their mood improves and they have less ‘bad days’ and many more ‘good days’.

The thinking behind it is that our brains are primed to look for evidence that supports our beliefs.  For example, lets say you sleep through the alarm clock in the morning, stub your toe on the bed as you stumble to the bathroom in a blind panic to get ready for work, miss your bus/train, and then end up being an hour late for the very important meeting with all the directors of the company… in all likelihood you’ll be thinking “What a bad start to the day.  I wonder what else is going to go wrong?”  By continuing your day with the belief that everything else will go wrong, it’s most likely that it will.  It’s so easy to get caught up in a negative spiral of thinking, and yet, by priming our brain to look for the positive things that are happening around us (and within us), it can be just as easy to create a positive spiral of thinking.

This website aims to get us to do just that, saying: “Because it’s so easy to think of what went ‘wrong’ with a day, we’d like you to start thinking about what went ‘right’. It’s all about knowing there’s a choice of what to think.”  I personally would add ‘feel’ to the end of that sentence as well.

Anyway, take a look at it.  You never know, it might just brighten up your day!  :)
